There's a long and a short answer...

The short answer is…Jesus…

The long answer…that’s gonna take some time…because there’s not a single answer for all the questions...
 
But there’s a big piece that tends to keep people stuck.

Before I tell you, I’m going to show you first with an example, so you can see first hand.
There’s a 8 year old boy named David and he comes home one day bursting to talk to his mom…

”Mom, I’m gonna get a job. I want to move out by the time I’m 9. I think I’m old enough to make it on my own and take care of myself.”

Mom responds, “Son, why would you want to do that?”

“Mom, I think it’s about time for me to start taking care of myself. I mean…I can read and write, I’ve got great math skills, and I’m pretty killer on my bike.I can ride all the way down the block with no hands!” David excitedly responds.
“But honey, you’re only 8, why on earth…”

The boy cuts his mother off…”Exactly, I’m 8. Sarah, my older sister, just turned 19 and has a job. She’s about to move out. So I thought I would beat her and do it by 9.”

Mom smirks and shakes her head. “Sarah is enrolled in a program that she is going to attend. Her job is part of the program. David, do you feel like your Father and I don’t take good care of you?”

“No, I think you and dad take good care of me. You give me a place to sleep, food to eat, and a sweet bike…I really like my bike. I just feel like it’s time to do it on my own and look after myself.”

“David, my child, you don’t need to get a job or look after yourself. Your purpose as an 8 year old is to be a child, to learn, grow, and play. If you get a job and try to take care of yourself, then that means you’ll have to comfort yourself when you’re scared.”

Mom continued, “We’ll no longer be in the next room over during one of those crazy storms that tend to get you worked up.”

David replies “Hmm…I didn’t think about that.” As the excitement starts to leave his face.

“There’s no need for you to take responsibility that was never meant to be yours.” As mom gives him a loving smile.

“Mom, I think you’re right…I’ll leave all that up to you…I’d much rather play than to make sure I’m safe. It’s really nice when I get scared that I can run to you and dad to comfort me. I think I’ll wait to do those things until I’m older.”

No Matter Our Age…We Are ALWAYS The Children of God.

It doesn’t matter how old we get…there are some things that will never be our responsibility.

Another way of saying that…we were doing a job that we were not designed or instructed to do.

I’m not a fan of the “it’s not my job” comment…but this really is NOT YOUR JOB!

Yes, the Bible talks about the army of God, but it ain’t you…or me…or any person on earth!
